Chhattisgarh is to the east side of Madya Pradesh. It is still flatish and quite rural. Furher east the plains give way to small remnants of rain forest and wetlands. Chilka Lake (Orissa) has been designated under the Convention of Wetlands of International Importance as being especially significant waterfowl habitats.
Orrissa contains the ‘rice bowl' taking advantage of the fresh water wetlands for cultivation.
Industries
Korba (Chhattisgarh) is the power capital of India providing a surplus of coal fired and hydroelectric power. Coal is a key resource along with ferro-alloys and aluminium. Although reliant on agriculture; biotechnology and I.T. are targeted for growth.
